May 1, 2025

Catch up on exciting updates from the Rose Bowl Stadium, including LA2028 Olympic news, the Lasting Legacy campaign, major concerts, community events, and upcoming FIFA Club World Cup matches.

To Our Rose Bowl Legacy Family,

We hope that this message finds you and your families doing well. As we are heading into the month of May already, the Rose Bowl Stadium event calendar has been packed with fun entertainment for everyone. We also have some Olympic news and an update on the Lasting Legacy campaign.

First, the City of Pasadena and the organizers of the LA2028 games signed the City Host Agreement that will bring the games back to the Rose Bowl Stadium for the third time. The stadium will host both men's and women's finals and semifinal matches for the LA28 Games. The Rose Bowl Stadium is one of a kind, as we are the only stadium in the world to host five Super Bowls, two World Cups, and now three Olympic Games. To see more of this historic agreement, please click here. Stay tuned for more information about the events and timelines on ticketing as 2028 is just around the corner.

LASTING LEGACY UPDATES:

Launched in early December 2024, the Lasting Legacy capital campaign is moving forward with more updates coming to the Rose Bowl Stadium. Key projects as part of the campaign have already been completed, such as the refurbishment of the historic marquee sign, the safe-standing seating on the venue’s east side, and an overhaul improvement of the Stadium's sound system. As we move closer and closer to the exciting new South End Zone Field Club becoming a reality at America’s Stadium, we look forward to continuing to give you updates as we progress over the rest of 2025.

RECENT EVENTS AT THE STADIUM:

Of course, America’s Stadium is full of great entertainment year in and year out. 2025 is no exception. Most recently, we had the legendary rock group AC/DC perform at the Rose Bowl, which was truly an amazing show. As someone who also plays guitar and other musical instruments and is a huge fan of all music, this was one of my favorites at the Rose Bowl.

We also had the Pokémon Go Tour come through the Stadium’s gates, along with the annual Egg Bowl – one of the largest egg hunts you will ever see! This year’s Egg Bowl event was even more special because we partnered with the Braile Institute to give kids with disabilities the opportunity to participate.

The quarterback of the Carolina Panthers and former Pasadena resident, Bryce Young, held his football camp at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The Rose Bowl Institute, Pasadena Tournament of Roses®, and Bryce Young's Young 9 Foundation partnered for a Youth Football Camp on April 4th at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The camp saw 270 boys and girls aged 6 - 14 not only focus on football fundamentals but also on mental health awareness. Each youth got to personally interact with Bryce Young on the football field, as well as take a personal picture with Bryce. Every kid left happy with a smile and a goodie bag filled with Crocs and snacks.

UPCOMING EVENTS AT THE STADIUM:

As we look towards the spring and summer events, we have some amazing things coming to the stadium. In May, we will have three different music festivals hosted at Brookside.

After all the great music, we will be one of the host sites for the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup. There will be six matches over ten days at the Rose Bowl Stadium starting on June 15. Great teams like Inter Milan, PSG, and Atletico Madrid will be making their way to Pasadena for this one-of-a-kind tournament.

On the historical front, we have installed three new historical markers here at the stadium. The 2006 University of Texas team that won the national championship here as one of the greatest college football games ever played, recognizing the four Ivy League schools who have played in the Rose Bowl Game® (Columbia, Penn, Harvard, and Brown), and a historical marker recognizing the UCLA “Gutty Little Bruins” of 1966, who won the Rose Bowl Game® in upset fashion over Michigan State 14-12. Michigan State was favored by 14 points going into the game, but was trailing 14-0 at halftime. UCLA withstood a late comeback by Michigan State to win the game. The Bruins, coached by the legendary Tommy Prothro, had a defensive lineman named Terry Donahue who would become a legend in his own right for UCLA and the Rose Bowl Stadium. We miss you, Terry.

During this time, we would be remiss if we didn’t pass along some unfortunate, sad news, as we lost a valued member of the Rose Bowl Stadium family in Doug Kranwinkle. Doug was a member of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation’s visioning of the Rose Bowl Institute, was a generous donor, and an impactful member of the Rose Bowl Operating Company board. Doug truly understood what the Rose Bowl Stadium meant to not only the community of Pasadena but what it meant to so many around the country and the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kranwinkle family.

EMPOWERING TOMORROW, TODAY: YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses® and the Rose Bowl Institute joined forces and hosted Empowering Tomorrow, Today: Youth Leadership Summit. The event was to equip the next generation with the resources, education, and life skills needed to tackle today’s challenges, while supporting the youth impacted by the Easton Fire disaster. Through their combined youth empowerment programs, the Tournament of Roses® and the Rose Bowl Institute are creating a meaningful impact. The summit featured keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops on financial literacy, life skills, and resilience. Resource Row connected students with local organizations offering mental health support, job opportunities, internships, mentorship, and more, ensuring everyone who attended left prepared for the future.
